Dr. Allan J. Kucine receives "OKU-Stephen H. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence"

The "Stephen H. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence" is awarded to an individual who has shown innovation in teaching, and significant contributions to both dental education at their institution and to the entire dental education community. This year Dr. Allan J. Kucine was selected for this award.

Dr. Allan Kucine received a B.A. (Biology) from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1978, and then a D.D.S. from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1982. He completed the residency training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1986, and was board certified in that specialty in 1988. He has been a faculty at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine since 1990.

Dr. Kucine has served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and more recently as Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. In addition, Dr. Kucine serves as Acting Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Stony Brook.  In addition, Dr. Kucine serves as a Curriculum Consultant to the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

He is an exemplary educator who is course director for eight courses in the areas of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Pain Control and Medical Emergencies as well as a faculty in several others within and outside of the school.  Dr. Kucine is known for his leadership in striving to deliver patient centered care in a professional and caring manner that puts the patient at ease and challenges the students to learn.

Dr. Kucine's administrative responsibilities have included leading the school of dental medicine through two successful accreditation site visits.

In addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities Dr. Kucine has recently received a HEAL NY Phase 6 Primary Care Infrastructure Grant of $3.17 million to help expland the dental care center.
