Secretary's Report

Prepared by Dr. Jon B. Suzuki In compliance with Article IV, Section 10, of the Bylaws of the Supreme Chapter, this report is hereby tendered by the Secretary. During 2010 a total of 699 new members were elected (718 in 2009); subdivided into 3 areas: 590 alumni (589 in 2009), 81 faculty (102 in 2009), and 28 honorary (27 in 2009). Forty-two (42) certificates of life membership were conferred. No certificates of recognition were presented. President Cederberg held an online meeting with the OKU Board of Directors and Ms. Jan John on January 3, 2011 at 10:00 am (CST). All officers were present with the exception of Dr. Jon Suzuki. Agenda for the annual business meeting and board of directors meeting in San Diego on March 13, 2011 were discussed. It was suggested that all awards be given at the same time to have a better flow at the meeting. All agreed. The Craig Award was discussed and all agreed to keep the same requirements and it should continued to be limited to junior faculty members. The proposed changes to the bylaws were discussed. These changes will be voted upon at the meeting in San Diego. President Cederberg thanked Dr. Delahanty for his work on the new website. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 am (CST). Two (2) chapters failed to comply with Article X, Section 7 of the Supreme Chapter Bylaws by failing to pay their dues by December 31, 2009. They are:
Three (3) chapters failed to have a delegate at the 2010 Annual Business Meeting. These chapters were notified by letter concerning their absence and were referred to Article X, Section 7 of the Bylaws regarding loss of recognition if their delegate is again absent in 2011. Those chapters are:
Zeta Chapter(University of Southern California) lost recognition but petitioned and was reinstated. A solicitation was made of the component chapters for the names of individuals whom they would recommend for officership in the Supreme Chapter. The Nominating Committee reviewed the applications submitted. This report concludes with the secretary-treasurer's annual appeal to component chapter secretaries to provide the information necessary for the operation of the Central Office in the maintenance of accurate files (most important are the necrology and the annual chapter reports). |
