Volume XLI - October 2006
President's Address (2005-2006)
By Dr. Janet Harrison
Dear OKU delegates and colleagues,
This past year has been a wonderful and humbling honor for me to serve as your Supreme Chapter president. There have been many issues that have come up concerning the business of component chapters and I have been very fortunate to have had such a responsive and helpful Board of Directors. I have seen for myself the outstanding ethics, ideas and innovations of various chapters and have had the privilege to visit at several and to speak to them. I have been so pleased to see that in these chapters, mentoring of faculty and students in the areas of ethics and excellence has been at the forefront.
This is an outstanding organization whose leaders are very active in their guiding and mentoring efforts and I am especially grateful to them. My special thanks to them for all their help throughout this past year.
Mrs. Jan Johns, our corresponding Secretary, who in spite of family health issues, has kept the board up to date with all the information going from chapter to chapter and within the Supreme Chapter as well as all her other duties.
Dr. Jon Suzuki, our secretary-treasurer, who has kept us on a steady and even keel and managed the difficult IT tasks as well.
Dr. Marc Geissberger, our president-elect, who has had multiple committees responsibilities along with the New Educator’s Research Grant.
Dr. Mark Reynolds, our vice president, who has worked in conjunction with Dr. Laura Mueller-Joseph, president of Sigma Phi Alpha, on the joint symposium, entitled “Getting Started in Research: Challenges and Opportunities”. This symposium has been co-sponsored by OKU and will be held this Saturday, March 11 from 10 am to noon—I hope you will all be able to attend and will ask your colleagues to attend as well.
Dr. Jim Delahanty, our Editor, who has served on and chaired multiple committees; served as our webmaster and even developed and distributed our new academic attire.
And Dr. John Reinhardt, our immediate past president, who has chaired our bylaws committee and worked very hard on several issues, including our proposed advertising policy. My thanks to all of you for all the work you do on behalf of this most special organization and for all your help to me.
Thank you.
